Helen Downs has written a wonderful introduction to some new age topics that often baffle skeptics. It is written in a very cozy witty style that even hard core believers in alternate realities will find both educational and refreshing. I highly recommend this enjoyable overview of the currently questionable things that science will someday prove to be true.

I love this little book. I've read it twice, and I know I shall read it at least several more times in the future. It has found a loving home on my bookcase, and there it will stay, a book amongst numerous treasured books. Downs simply addresses certain happenings that many people encounter in life from time to time, whether these happenings may be paranormal or just normal to some of us.
Even if you are already aquainted with these subjects, her approach is a reminder, a "don't forget that these things happen or exist, and don't forget to question their existence". Also, she points out that people who do encounter the "weird", oft-times dismiss such things for "want of a rational pigeonhole to file them in". How right she is.
Intelligently written, and just the right size of book to tweak the minds of those who scoff at such things without having any knowledge to back up their scoffing, this lovely book will make a perfect gift to someone, to your best friend, co-worker, or to yourself

Helen's book is a great read, and wonderfully refreshing in its simplicity and easy-to-read style.
Even if she succeeds in opening just one mind a little more to the vast expanse of higher and wider realities that are potentially available, then she's done a great job, but I can't see how anyone reading this book couldn't at least begin to think: "Hmm - maybe there is a little more to all this "New Age" stuff after all!"
Opening up to deeper and more expanded levels of conscious awareness is what evolution in the Human Kingdom is all about - this is intrinsically linked in to our DNA. It's no accident that we humans of Earth can consciously access about 10% of our potential conscious awareness, and it's about the same amount (10%) of our potential DNA that is active! There is a very important link here. The other 90% is NOT "junk DNA" as some scientists claim - it holds the key to our evolution as a human species. Helen's book, "A Handful of Seeds" gives us quite a few handy clues and hints of how to kick start this evolutionary process to the next level.

Well done! As a long time practitioner and student of alternative medicine, I found Helen Downs' book an easy to read and informative compilation. Her chatty style made all those complicated iffy things sound down to earth. It is a great introduction for any skeptic and gives key sources to pursue further study. Highly recommended.

A friendly and entertaining book:, September 11, 2010

This review is from: A Handful of Seeds. (Hardcover)
Most books that profess to guide you through life's experience can be preachy and dull. Not so `A Handful of Seeds' by Helen Downs. She writes with such a natural voice, it seems you will have just joined her at a quiet corner of a pleasant coffee shop, and you are chatting with a best friend; the sort who can make you laugh at yourself, and invite laughter at them. A very nice find in such a book - conversation without the preaching.
Slender, and yet still filled with a wealth of information, Helen guides you through a few subjects that she has investigated, but she leaves you with the choice of answer. Another nice find in such a book. She truly wants you to be the expert in your own experience. `A Handful of Seeds' is about that, your experience. If you have wondered what lies beyond what you can see, she has a few tips on how to find out. If you have mastered your own path through life, you will notice...she seems to have mastered hers.

This is a well written and thought-provoking book covering a wide range of subjects in a way that is easy to understand, not seeking to convert but suggesting that ‘the truth is out there’ for those who wish to seek it – a guide to those who might wish to dip their toes into alternative views of life, the universe and everything.

This book was wriiten in a manner which can only assist the people of earth during this important ascension time. As we approach 2012 we must have people like Helen Downs to teach and nurture the people who are naive to the changes.

We have read this book with an open mind to learning how naive the human is to the things around them. It has shown us, an ancient people, that you need to start by reading this book. Our fair friend Helen is good one and has pleased us many times. We are pleased that our friend Helen has healed many within her world.
